A file photo of the SGF, Mr Boss Mustapha. The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr Boss Mustapha, says the Federal Government will implement the New Minimum Wage of N30,000. Addressing reporters on Thursday in Abuja, he stated that the government was committed to the implementation, despite the increase from N27,000 to N30,000 by the House of Representatives. “Look at where we took it from; from N18,000 as a minimum wage,” Mr Mustapha said. “What is before the House of Representatives is N30,000, although our recommendation is N27,000.” The SGF further disclosed that the government has made adequate arrangement in the 2019 Appropriation Bill, to cater for the new wage. He explained that the importance of this was to give workers across the country a reasonable wage, adding that President Muhammadu Buhari does not take the welfare of workers for granted. Mr Mustapha said, “We have made adequate provision in the 2019 budget; we mean well for the good workers of

Kepa fined a week's wages for Carabao Cup final substitution farce

The Spanish goalkeeper went to ground with an apparent injury in the closing moments of extra time, prompting manager Maurizio Sarri to ready penalty specialist Willy Caballero to enter for the impending shoot-out. A messy cross-field exchange ensued as Kepa argued with Sarri - who had to remain on the touchline - over his ability to remain in the game. Chelsea would go on to lose the shootout, with Kepa letting a tame penalty run underneath him to contribute to the defeat. The Stamford Bridge side released fresh statements from both Sarri and Kepa on Monday night, adding that the 24-year-old would be fined a week's worth of wages. "I was very happy to play in my first Cup Final for Chelsea yesterday and very proud o

Nigerian president takes early lead amid vote-rigging charge

KANO, Nigeria — Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari surged to an early lead in election returns Monday, winning seven of 36 states in Africa's largest democracy, while the main opposition rejected the count, alleging manipulation. Election observers said the last-minute postponement of the vote until Saturday discouraged some Nigerians from going to the polls as Buhari seeks a second term heading a country troubled by corruption, insecurity and a weak economy. Buhari, a former military dictator from the north, faced a strong challenge from top opposition candidate Atiku Abubakar, a former vice president and businessman, in a race many saw as too close to call. As of midnight, Abubakar had won three southern states and the territory that includes the capital, Abuja. Buhari led by more than 450,000 votes overall. Abubakar's party chairman, Uche Secondus, accused ruling party agents of hacking into the electoral commission's computer server and manipulating results

Kepa Arrizabalaga leaves Chelsea training ground as Maurizio Sarri takes session

Kepa Arrizabalaga was spotted leaving Chelsea's training ground on Monday afternoon as the club looks to draw a line under his row with Maurizio Sarri. The Spaniard defied his manager's orders in Sunday's Carabao Cup final with  Manchester City  after refusing to be substituted. Sarri wanted to replace Kepa - who had received treatment for cramp - with Willy Caballero in the dying minutes of extra-time with a penalty shootout looming. The under-fire manager claimed it was just a 'misunderstanding' after the game, while the keeper also held his hands up. However, Kepa checked in at Cobham with the rest of his team-mates as usual on Monday ahead of their crunch clash with  Tottenham . The 24-year-old took part in a recovery session in the gym with the rest of the players who started at Wembley as Raheem Sterling's spot-kick fired City to victory. Sarri's position remains under threat but the Italian took charge of a training session on the grass
