Senate approves 30, 000 as minimum wage

The Nigerian Senate has approved N30, 000 as minimum wage for workers in Nigeria. The national minimum wage bill will become effective after the president, Muhammadu Buhari, assents to it. The chairman of the ad-hoc committee set up to review the bill, Francis Alimikhena, presented a report on Tuesday. The report recommended that N30, 000 be approved as minimum wage for Nigerian workers. It also recommended that the federal government put in place a procedure to review revenue sharing formula to enhance state capabilities towards implementation of the new wage. The committee also suggested that relevant agencies should compute the cost implication of the bill on the 2019 budget and forward same to the National Assembly. N75, 000 was recommended as fine ‘for not keeping records of employees. The lawmakers adopted all the recommendations. Hudson-Odoi called into England squad

Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi has been called into the England squad for the first time ahead of the Euro 2020 qualifiers against Czech Republic and Montenegro. The teenager joined up with Gareth Southgate's squad at St George's Park just hours after travelling to Bristol to join Aidy Boothroyd's Under-21s side. The call-up comes after Chelsea team-mate Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Manchester City pair Fabian Delph and John Stones pulled out through injury, along with Manchester United's Luke Shaw. NYSC 2018 Batch A: 1,600 corps members pass-out in Kogi

No fewer than 1,600 Batch ‘A’ corps members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Kogi were discharged from their one year service on Thursday.  Rev. Adedapo Tayo, the Assistant Director, Press and Public Relations, NYSC, disclosed this in an interview with NAN on Thursday in Lokoja. Reports have it that the passed out corps members received their discharge certificates simultaneously in the 21 local governments of their primary assignments across the state. Tayo gave thanks to the Almighty God for keeping the lives of the corps members, saying no life was lost during the period under review. Real Madrid captain, Sergio Ramos, will push for a summer exit, if the club appoints Jose Mourinho to replace under-fire Santiago Solari, SportsMail reports. Ramos fought with Mourinho when he coached the club between 2010-2013 and has already clashed with President Florentino Perez, over plans to bring him back. Despite the fact that Mourinho courted Gareth Bale in 2017 when he was at Manchester United, the Welshman is another player believed not to welcome the managerial change. And two other veterans from Mourinho’s last spell in charge, Marcelo and Karim Benzema, have also opposed the idea. However, Perez has told the players they will have no voice in the appointment. He is expected to meet with his club directors on Monday, to take a final decision on putting Mourinho in charge of the team with immediate effect.

Trump will ask for $8.6B for wall in budget: report

web search President Trump reportedly intends to request $8.6 billion for his long-promised wall along the border with Mexico when he submits his 2020 congressional budget on Monday. Reuters reported that the president will submit his request to Congress based on a 2017 plan crafted by Customs and Border Protection that called for 722 miles of barriers to be built or replaced along the U.S.-Mexico border. The funding for the wall would pull $5 billion from the Department of Homeland Security budget, plus $3.6 billion for the military construction budget at the Pentagon, according to the news service. The budget proposal would include a separate $3.6 million in military construction to help fund projects affected by the wall. In addition to wall funding, Trump's proposal calls for the hiring of an additional 2,800 law enforcement and other personnel to reinforce the border, and 100 immigration judge teams, Reuters reported.
