TECHNOLOGY: IS IT THE NEW TOWER OF BABEL?

Image
Tower of Babel (Hebrew Bābhel, from Assyro-Babylonian bāb-ili,”gate of God”), according to the Old Testament (see Genesis 11:1-9), tower erected on the plain of Shinar in Babylonia by descendants of Noah. The builders intended the tower to reach to heaven; their presumption, however, angered Yahweh, who interrupted construction by causing among them a previously unknown confusion of languages. He then scattered these people, speaking different languages, over the face of the earth. The story possibly was inspired by the fall of the famous temple-tower of Etemenanki, later restored by King Nabopolassar and his son Nebuchadnezzar II of Babylonia. The Genesis account appears to play on the Babylonian word bāb-ili (“gate of God”) and on the Hebrew words Bābhel (“Babylon”) and bālāl (“to confuse”). The English words babel and babble are derived from the story. FOR TECHNOLOGY: God made a mistake in his calculations at the Tower of Babel: nowadays everybody speaks the same technol...

The first wedding anniversary of Harry and Meghan. HAPPY ANNIVERSARY

Image
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are celebrating their first wedding anniversary today, as a family of three with the arrival of baby Archie. A year after they wed on May 19 last year at St George's Chapel, we look back at some of the highlights of the last 365 days. Just days after their glittering wedding ceremony, the newlyweds made their first official engagement as a married couple at a garden party celebrating the Prince of Wales's charity work. Meghan embarked on her first joint engagement with the Queen on a day trip to Cheshire, and body language experts said the pair got on famously. In July, Harry and Meghan travelled to Dublin - their first official overseas trip as a married couple - and visited Croke Park stadium, the scene of the Bloody Sunday atrocity committed by British troops against civilians in 1920. In the autumn, Meghan took her mother Doria Ragland to the launch of the Grenfell community cookbook she championed - and helped prepare lunch for...

Rumours of a secret wedding, by pogba's girlfriend

Image
Paul Pogba's girlfriend, Maria Zulay Salaues, has sparked rumours of a secret wedding by changing her name on Instagram.  The Bolivian model is the mother of Pogba's child and recently changed her handle from to "Zulay Pogba", taking his last name. It has led to speculation the pair have secretly wed just days after a disappointing Premier League season for Pogba and Manchester United drew to a close. The 25-year-old was first spotted with Pogba back in 2017 in Los Angeles, and she fuelled speculation of an engagement by wearing a huge ring when she watched the World Cup in Russia last summer alongside his mother.  The couple arrived at United's player of the season awards last week with a ring clearly visible on Pogba's hand, but with the pair secretive about their romance online fans have been kept guessing. She recently uploaded a photo of the pair captioned: "Till the end" as they enjoyed a getaway in Paris together. The p...

80 people were arrested for eaten by Sharia police

Image
The Islamic Sharia police in northern Nigeria's Kano state briefly detained 80 people accused of eating in public, rather than fasting from dawn to sunset as Muslims are required to do during their holy month of Ramadan. The Sharia police, known as Hisbah, say the people were arrested at different times across the city of Kano in the past couple of days. Kano state is one of the several states in northern Nigeria where Sharia law was re-introduced since 2000. Sharia law is being implemented partially along with the country’s secular law. The Hisbah spokesman in Kano state, Adamu Yahaya, told the BBC that all those arrested were Muslims and officers do not target non-Muslims because they are not bound by Islamic law. He said some of those arrested told the Sharia office that they were eating because they did not sight the Ramadan crescent themselves while others feigned sickness, but the authorities found their excuses baseless. The 80 were admonished and released ...
