Ariana Grande Hit With Lemon at Coachella
The Bey Hive has spoken, folks. After allegations suggested Ariana Grande earned more than Beyoncé for her Coachella headlining effort this year, the pop songstress was targeted by a fan who threw a lemon at her on Sunday. Lemons are associated with Beyoncé due to her widely-praised sixth studio album Lemonade.
Grande, 25, took the stage for weekend two of Coachella on Sunday to give fans her all. She even recruited Justin Bieber (they have the same manager, Scooter Braun) for his first stage performance in two years. But not everyone in the crowd was impressed, and one fan had the audacity to throw a lemon directly at the Nickelodeon alum, which hit her chest as she was strutting on the stage.
"If you throw a lemon at Ariana Grande, you're a piece of s***," Finneas, a singer, shared to Twitter.
The moment in question sparked a mix of reactions from Twitter users. Many shared a similar sentiment with Finneas arguing that attacking Grande with the lemon was uncalled for. However, others joked about Grande's lemon attack.
One fan said throwing a lemon at Grande was "childish," a second fan questioned why someone "just has a lemon with them at a music festival," and a third individual joked that Victoria Justice—Grande's former Victorious co-star whom she seemingly feuded with—was "photographed throwing a lemon" at the singer. A fourth person suggested the lemon-throwing incident was "f***ing hilarious" and another claimed the guilty party who threw the fruit boasts showed "disrespect."
"Someone threw a lemon at our baby!!! Who the f*** throws lemons at a concert?? Wtf s**t... this ain't no one direction concert right @ArianaGrande? I love you baby @ArianaGrande," a fan tweeted. "I hope you are ok @ArianaGrande People don't throw lemons people!! The f*** y'all are weird!"
Ahead of Grande's Coachella performance, rumors swirled that the "7 Rings" singer earned $8 million for her appearance whereas Beyoncé only earned $4 million for her iconic "Homecoming" set. Beyoncé's performance resulted in the recently released Homecoming documentary for Netflix; a film that showed the lead up to her Coachella stint, from a strict vegan diet to her struggle to return to normalcy after delivering twins Rumi and Sir Carter.
The alleged payment disparity sparked outcry among the Bey Hive who voiced their disdain for the matter via Twitter. Grande reportedly didn't earn more than Queen Bey for performing at Coachella, however.
According to The Blast, Grande and Beyoncé earned the same amount for their respective Coachella appearances. The singers both had a contract that allowed them to earn $4 million for show. Therefore, they each would've earned a combined $8 million for their efforts.
