80 people were arrested for eaten by Sharia police

Image
The Islamic Sharia police in northern Nigeria's Kano state briefly detained 80 people accused of eating in public, rather than fasting from dawn to sunset as Muslims are required to do during their holy month of Ramadan. The Sharia police, known as Hisbah, say the people were arrested at different times across the city of Kano in the past couple of days. Kano state is one of the several states in northern Nigeria where Sharia law was re-introduced since 2000. Sharia law is being implemented partially along with the country’s secular law. The Hisbah spokesman in Kano state, Adamu Yahaya, told the BBC that all those arrested were Muslims and officers do not target non-Muslims because they are not bound by Islamic law. He said some of those arrested told the Sharia office that they were eating because they did not sight the Ramadan crescent themselves while others feigned sickness, but the authorities found their excuses baseless. The 80 were admonished and released ...

1st NEWSPAPER

Image
Newspapers published under the same name on a regular schedule first appeared in Venice, Italy, in the 16th century. Handwritten newspapers called  avisi , or gazettes, appeared weekly as early as 1566. They reported news brought to Venice by traders, such as accounts of wars and politics in other parts of Italy and Europe. Venetian gazettes established a style of journalism that most early printed newspapers followed—short sets of news items written under the name of the city they came from and the date on which they were sent. The oldest surviving copies of European newspapers are of two weeklies published in German in 1609—one in Strassburg (now Strasbourg, France) by Johann Carolus, the other in Wolfenbüttel, Germany, by Lucas Schulte.   Newspapers spread rapidly throughout Europe. One-page weeklies appeared in Basel, Switzerland, by 1610; in Frankfurt, Germany, and Vienna, Austria, by 1615; in Hamburg, Germany, by 1616; in Berlin, German...

Pope Francis has given the church 19 new priests, ordaining the men in an elaborate ceremony Sunday in St. Peter's Basilica

Image
Fifteen of the seminarians ordained by Francis are Italian; the others are from Croatia, Peru, Haiti and Japan. The seminarians' ages range from mid-20s to 46. Wearing white robes, the seminarians stood in three rows before the central altar after replying, "Here I am," as their names were called one by one. Francis, reciting a ritual formula, asked if they were worthy to become priests. Later in the ceremony, the seminarians prostrated themselves in a sign of obedience to church authority and to God, on a carpet in front of the altar. During his homily, Francis instructed them to never "tire of being merciful" toward the faithful who confess sins. "Aware of having been chosen among men and appointed in their favor to attend to the things of God, carry out in joy and charity, with sincerity, the priestly work of Christ, solely intent on pleasing God and not yourselves," Francis said. Each seminarian knelt before the pope and held out his ...

Chelsea home game shootout run the best stats

Chelsea have won each of their last four penalty shootouts at Stamford Bridge, with this their first in European competition at home. This is the first time that all four places in the Champions League/European Cup and Europa League/UEFA Cup finals will be filled by one country. Chelsea have reached their first major European final since the 2013 Europa League, when they beat Benfica 2-1 under manager Rafael Benitez. Chelsea have never lost a home game against German opponents in all competitions (W7 D3). Eintracht Frankfurt have only lost one of their last nine away Europa League games (W5 D3). The German side have scored in all seven of their games on the road in the competition this season. Luka Jovic has scored 10 goals in the Europa League this season; no player has netted more (level with Olivier Giroud). seven 7 Important questions

Image
Some of the great questions men have always asks are, whatis the Creator like? What shall I do about my sins? How can I overcome temptation? How can I know God? What is the purpose of life? What lies beyond the grave for those who reject Jesus Christ? Is there really a Heaven? All these questions have been fully answered in God's written Word, the Bible and in the person of the lord Jesus Christ, who is the Living word of God. WHAT IS THE CREATOR LIKE? Jesus answered this question. He said, He that hath seen me, hath seen the father; (john 14:9). I and my father are one. (john10:30) when a man looked into the face of Jesus,he could say, I have seen God . Jesus was God appearing in human form. Jesus brought God down to men, and He lifted men up to God. WHAT SHALL I DO ABOUT MY SINS? I Heard a person make this confession on the radio. Many people live under the burden and guilt of sin. Friend, if your heart cries out in words like these, I have good news ...

Ajax 2-3 Tottenham (Agg: 3-3)

Image
Tottenham striker Harry Kane said: "It was amazing. It was a disappointing first half and we let them play. I went into the dressing room at half time and we knew it wasn't good enough. We said we had 45 minutes to give everything. When Lucas Moura scored the two you thought we would get another but then Jan Vertonghen hit the crossbar and we thought it might not be our day. "I'm a fan first and foremost and I know how much it means to the club. The lads dug deep and showed passion and that is all you can ask for. We had to wait to get the third in the last minute and we found a way. That is what football is about and we have the final to come."
